Clinical Behavioural Consultations
Rachel graduated from Murdoch University with a first-class honours degree in veterinary medicine and surgery in 2009. Throughout her career she has developed a special interest in canine behaviour and offers specific clinical veterinary behaviour consults as part of Dogs United. Rachel also works as a GP veterinarian at the Foothills Animal Hospital using the principles of low stress handling.

Dr Rachel offers veterinary consultations that specifically address the behavioural issues your dog is experiencing. These are offered as home visit consultations on Mondays with two time slots available, 10am or 1pm.
The behavioural review process in very involved. Rachel will ascertain as much information as possible in order to formulate a working diagnosis and assess whether behavioural medications are appropriate.
Usually, a patient of Rachel’s is prescribed behavioural medications when good and consistent training is not improving behaviours as expected within a reasonable timeframe.

Fear, anxiety and over arousal are commonly involved in behavioural problems and this needs to be fully explored as well as medical causes excluded for a treatment plan to be implemented.
The consultation process involves completion of a questionnaire, so that we can collect a detailed history for you and your dog, we use this as the basis for our discussion. The consultation is approx. 2hrs long and from there we formulate a summary and training report for you to work through and provide written scripts if required. In addition if you are not working with an experienced positive reinforcement trainer we will refer you to one that an help implement and guide you with the training required for progress to be achieved.
The cost of an initial home visit behavioural consultation is $380.
